My internet is so amazingly slow, I had a speed test and it said that my internet was slow for a dial-up connection (which I agree with of course). Ok so I have a dial-up connection, how can I speed it up? :(

Get a faster modem. My friend has dial up because his father doesn't want Cable and DSL is not in his area. He bought some modem from U.S. Robotics. It does something with compressing files.

Ditch the dial up! it's like watching the grass grow or waiting for christmas if you get the software that compresses the files it's at best still going to be real real slow! You can get great deals on high speed internet now days I have sbc yahoo dsl and get 2.7mbps download speeds and that is smoking fast compaired to dialup and I only pay $29.95 a month and withing the next few years the phone companies are going to be upgrading their lines and it would not suprise me to see speeds above 10mbps thats just my 2cents worth!

What browser are you using? Try messing about with you browser settings. I used IE and the switched to Firefox, which was faster (in some sense) than IE. Then, I stumbled across this thread: Here! and I was able to speed it up a couple of notches more :D
Speeding up a Dial-up connection is pretty difficult task but it is possible ;)

I want to ditch dial-up so bad but there is nothing else I could get except satelite :( Those satelte companies want $800 for the hardware a couple hundred more bucks for installation and $50 some bucks a month for the monthly fee. Thats a tad bit ridiculous.

you can get satilite alot cheaper then that...... and FireFox is a Internet browser made my Mozzila, IMO its better then IE by a long shot.

Of course I keep referring too it System Machanic (Still cant spell it) speeds up your internet connection by up to 300% on dial-up and 200% on broadband give it a shot from www.iolo.com

Do you guys really believe that there is anything that might speed up the connection above what the provider want you to get? I don't think so. We are limited by the cables bandwidth.

Try changing your ISP man for a faster dial up connetion, this might help as long as your phone lines and cables are good :)

Well considering I have a 1MBPS connection and used SM and my connection went up to 1.75MBPS not really that much of a change but still better than nothing of course programs will increase your internet speed if they are actually Internet Connection Speed increasing programs. Some just claim it and then do actually do there job :D

sounds like your line just isn't capped.

"56K modems can only operate at 56K under ideal conditions, ones that the telephone system is incapable of providing. Even a small amount of noise can reduce the speed, and if the telephone company has a line-sharing devices called a DACS between you and the exchanges you may be restricted to under half the bandwidth that a telephone line can nominally provide. Similarly, if you have to go through a switchboard or over a particularly long connection you'll get a reduced throughput.

In general, if you're getting over 40Kbps reliably you're probably doing as well as can be expected. Less than 33.6Kbps and there's probably something wrong - you may be able to get the telephone company to boost the line levels or investigate for other problems. If possible, try other ISPs or try your modem at another location, and talk to other people in your area who use the Internet: fault finding a lack of speed is a complicated business, and the more information you have before you go to your phone company, the better."

My GF usually connects at 50.6K, but her actual download speed is from 1-5kbps. never seen it better. But i set up her Firefox settings and it seems pretty fast, maybe 200kbps. but that's jsut web page loading...actual speed still stays the same.
