New Member
I gave my old computer to my dad a year or two ago. He complains about it being to slow all the time. I chekced it out, and sure enough it is slow as hell. I ran Hijack This and copyed the log hoping you guys could tell me something useful.

This machine is infected. Please do the following.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please post the malwarebytes log along with a fresh hijackthis log.

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.
 
Thanks for the help guys. But within 12 hours of posting this the motherboard fried.. Not sure what the cause was exactly.

I put a new motherboard in it, went to boot up, and it just keeps rebooting itself basically. Has me select Boot Windows Normally, goes to windows loading screen, then repeats..

Any help with that?

If its not the same motherboard as the original then you will have to do a repair install of the operating system. However, its probably in your best interest to do a fresh install.
 
Thanks John that makes sense. The operating system, XP, was on the hard drive before I got it so I dont have the cd. Looks like I need to get ahold of a new OS now.
