i just recently installed a new hard drive in my computer and i want to move "my music" and "my movies" folder over to the new drive to free up space on the old one.

i cut and pasted it all over to the new drive but now my itunes is empty and when i got to 'my music' on the start menu or desktop it takes me to the old C:\\asdf\asdf\my music folder instead of the new drive

how do i fix it so itunes searches for music on the new drive and also so when i click on 'my music' folder it will go to the new drive as opposed to the old one??

thanks for the help!!! :-D

Try doing a search for new files from the new drive.. maybe that'll let iTunes know where the music is.

For one thing, in iTuens, you might want to:
In the Edit then Preferences menu then Advanced tab and the sub-tab General, change the location of your itunes folder. I know this doesn't solve the issue, but just though I would mention it for the future.

What you can do is just drag your new music folder (from within windows explorer) into the "Library" section of that left panel in iTunes. iTunes will search through that folder and all of its subfolders and will put all the music into your iTunes library.

Now, to change the location of the "My Music" folder. There are several ways to do it. If you moved your entire "My Documents" folder to the new drive, then (since My Music is inside it), you can click on Start, then RIGHT-click on My Documents, choose properties and then enter the new location. Windows should then figure out the new location for My Music and My Pictures.

However, if you only want to change your My Music folder location and not touch your My Documents folder location, then do this.

It is VERY easy to do. Let me know if you have never used the registry and if you need help.
