Hi all,
I'm I.T literate but no genius when it comes to systems, networking and in this case internet security. Bit of a noob you can call it.
Recently I sold a brand new wallet on ebay to a loving boyfriend but he ended up paying about $60 more the original price. The only thing was this wallet is no longer sold in stores so he can't go and buy this wallet for the normal price.
He emailed saying he wanted $60 back because he didn't feel it was fair that I got more than what I paid for it. Considering I had about 32 bids for the wallet, I'm sure another bidder would have paid more for a wallet you can longer get. I obviously refused to give him his money back and this is where it gets interesting.
We have free access to the internet at work and we are allowed to use ebay anytime we want so I was emailing this buyer from my hotmail account on my work computer. After I refused to give him $60 back I received an email on my work email address which is completely not linked to my ebay account or my hotmail account. The emailed said, "Does your boss know you use work computers, resources and time to ebay?" It was sent by a hotmail address. Finally I called the buyer and confronted him. He said he traced me through the emails I had sent him in my hotmail address and found my trail which was all over the place. He got my work email address from it and looked onto our website and threatened to call my managing director and tell him all these lies. He then threatened to come into my work and cause a heap of trouble. I had no choice but to refund him the $60.
Does anyone know what this guy has done? I've spoken to a few people and they said he found my mac address and traced me and then read my cookies but believed that was highly unlikely because that's really difficult. Does anyone know how this person could have done this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't like getting blackmailed especially for something that's not my fault.
