ive got this problem wit hthe comp restarting.

ok. so all this began when i upgraded my computer and added a gig of RAM and a new vid card. my computer just shuts off and starts up for no reason, usualy when playing games or running media player. what can this be? some1 told me maybe my power source??

It could be your power supply. How many watts is your PSU? And what else are you running in your system. AkA video cards and such.

its a 400 Watt power supply. and im running a GeForce 7600 video card and 2 gigs of ram.

That sounds like it should have enough to run it. It could be your system over heating. What are your temps? Download and run a program called Coretemp. It will give you your temps. Let us know what they are. Try running it when you playing games to get a true reading of your load temp.

the heat is around 47-50c

Thats under load? Thats not to bad, a little high, but not bad.

But that's for your cpu right? What about your video card temps?

i found my GPU temp, its 55C rest and 60 when im running couterstrike source

Ok, that rules out overheating.

Now for the fun stuff. Have you tried removing that stick of ram you added and see if you still have that problem?

Are you sure you are running the latest drivers for your video card?
