Ok so, I've narrowed my laptop search to two lappies. The first:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101166
What I like:
9800m GTS
4 Gigs DDR3 Ram
1920x1200 Resolution
What concerns me:
Just the p8400. I'm looking for something that will be good for a while, and this processor seems to be a bit dated.
The Second:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220493
What I like:
T9400 Processor (A nice upgrade from the p8400)
Blu-Ray!
Overall Design (This computer "looks" like a gaming rig)
What concerns me:
9800 GS. Although it's only a marginal downgrade from the GTS version, I still have fears that this rig isn't going to perform as well on the games I like (Fallout 3, Oblivion, Dragon Age: Origins when that releases).
Also, I'm not sure if the ram in this one is DDR3, I'll look more into that. (Edit: This laptop does NOT include DDR3 memory, DDR2 only)
The Asus is REALLY attractive to me because of the faster processor and Blu-ray player, along with the smaller features that aren't really deal-breakers...but are pretty cool none-the-less. (LCD to display temps/instant messages, Really nice design IMO) But this laptop is admittadly at the upper end of my ever shrinking budget.
The Gateway is attractive to me because the price is definatly right. It also comes with a more powerful graphics adapter (Although marginally so).
Pretty much I'm stumped...both seem like really good options. It seems like they would perform very close to eachother. The Asus would have more processing power in games, the Gateway would have more graphics power...so it's a really hard decision.
Please Help! Post up your opinions of each, and maybe help me out with a few of these questions
Will one perform noticably better/worse?
Would it be worth it to buy the gateway and buy a new processor when the one in it isn't viable anymore? (It's socket P, from what I understand I can put up to a T9600 in it)
Anything else you want to add please feel free
Edit: The Asus also has dual HDD's capable of Raid configurations. To be honest I have no idea what that means...but I heard that it increases the rate of transfer from the harddrives...so it can't be bad
