I'm interested in a software package that requires JRE to be installed.
Is JRE safe or are there still zero-day concerns?

Just make sure you are running the latest version and update to the latest when available. If you really don't need it, don't install it.

Reason for JRE

I'm thinking about installing LibreOffice to get the database.
If I understand correctly, Libre database requires JRE.
My dB needs are NOT complicated or overly involved but I could really make use of one.

I had to convert a few csv documents and I was going to install Libreoffice, but I found an online csv convertor and just converted them to html. There are several online doc convertors that may benefit you. I didn't know Libreoffice used Java which really sucks because I stay away from Java.

I have installed Libreoffice and Java on both home and office computers...i didn't have any problems for now..If you install the latest version of Java everything should be fine
