Jump Drive Issue

How's it going everyone? I'm new here...:D I've recently been moving files around from hd to hd before I wipe and reformat my old hp laptop. I'm using a Sandisk jump drive. It's only 1 gig but it gets the job done. I recently reformatted that as well.

The problem I'm having is some videos don't play properly when I bring them over to another computer. Ex: The file is 10 mins long and plays fine on my labtop(xp). I copy that file to the jump drive and remove it correctly. Usually I'm lazy but not too long ago I lost some important school papers. :D So always remove it the right way! I bring it over to the other computer...Vista... and when I go to play it, it plays but basically for only a minute or 30 seconds. Now if I click in the middle it will say 5 mins but then will continue streaming in "30 second mode." Now it will continue playing(after the 30 seconds) but it freezes up. The audio still works though. I've had this happen several times. I'm not sure if it's a corrupt file or what but It plays fine on my laptop... Anyone know what it could be? I just brought over some more files(MPEG AND MP3) all came over fine.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Are these problem files WMV files by chance? If not, what format are they? Also, what player are you using?

Certainly seems like a codec or player issue. Make sure your new system has the proper codecs for the files being played. You can also try a media player like VLC which uses it's own codecs instead of the ones on the system.
