well. basically i need a new CPU. as from my signature below you can see why.
i have £140 and i need an AMD equivalent to at least an Intel Core 2 E6600. I was lookin at a Phenom X4 9650 and i dont know if that bears any similarites to the Intel E6600. can anyone shed some light on this situation ? :o

The Phenom II processors are about the same price and far better than the first generation Phenom processors. Take a look at the Phenom II 550 or Phenom II 720 processors. These processors will also beat the Core 2 Duo E6600 processor in speed.

Phenom II 550 Dual-Core Processor - $102

Stretch your budget just a couple pounds for this-

A decent bit better than the 720, it has another core and 400mhz faster.

Your board only supports hyper transport 2.0, and not 3.0. So the hyper transport will be underclocked to 1000mhz instead of 2000mhz, and also the north bridge speed will consequently be underclocked as well. So the CPU will not be totally 100%, but compared to the 5000+ you have now it's no contest.
