I moved one of my colleagues to the domain and somehow when i did, the file icons (attachments icons to be precise) in Microsoft outlook got messed up.
all attachment she gets look like an unknown file
28hh281.jpg

but when double clicked they open with their respective application...

also the icons of her office programs (word, access etc) are like below :
2hp6mmo.jpg

but they do work...

how do i restore the icons ? sounds like an easy stuff..maybe something i overlooked... but i don't know
i re-installed office but that didn't help

You need to restore the original extension (which is usually after the dot in a file name).
What exactly was the original file opening with? Was it a program?
Usually programs in windows have the .exe extension. If it's a word document, than it may be .doc (or .docx if used office 2007). There are many extensions that it may be, you need to know the original one.

Right click on it and pick properties-shortcut tab- click change Icon-see if it still listed, if so just re pick it and hit ok-if not hit browse and see if it still there.

i know that already, read my post...carefuly
all attachments open with the respective programs.

When you try to open that file, what happens? You are asked to select a program to open with? Or it works all right?
wow i said it works alright, don't you guys read ? :P

In the images you submitted did you have 'hide extensions' in folder options turned off?
i just made the images so you guys will understand, it's not on the actual pc

edit :

solved. Alexyu i did not try your method though.
For some reason, i decided to log in as admin (locally) and when i ran word it asked me for the office cd.. it does not ask me the cd while logged on domain.
So i popped in the cd and every office icon was repaired... strange....
