ok, so my mom has an OEM machine (Gateway 710 X), that we've had for several years. And it hasn't been cleaned out since we got it (about 7 years ago!!). so yesterday i finally go and clear the 1/2 inch thick layer of dust out. but, before i did this i monitored the temperature of the CPU and such before i cleaned. before the clean it ran at 56'C, on idle, and 79'C on full load!! (and was almost always running the rear case fan at full speed) after my amazingly thorough cleaning, it was spotless. after the cleaning it was running 36'C on idle, and 52'C on full load!!! i was just stunned on how much of a difference that made and now the rear case fan is not even on, even at full load! :O
btw: i've done some research on what processor is in that machine (P4 3.0 GHz HT) but i'm stuck on one thing...is it a northwood core? or a prescott core? i'm thinking northwood because the case is not adequate enough for cooling a prescott (doesn't have air chassis guide)
thanks for reading! just thought that was a nice accomplishment.
