Just a Thought about PS3 ?

i was looking at other posts on CF.com and i saw that the PS3 uses a 7600 or 7800 nvidia graphics card ? so i thought to my self , i could build my self a better computer for $700/800 right, running in SLI, i mean do u think the graphics on the computer would be better than a PS3, its almost like a computer right ?
 
Probably not, there's no way things are that simple....lol kidding..

I'm not sure, I'm going to wait and see, because I'm curious too...
 
the cool thing about consoles is, the games on it are made for that specific hardware. I mean, the old xbox for example only had a Pentium 3 (700MHz or so? ) CPU with 64 Mb of RAM, but it ran Halo 2. while you'd need a much better pc than that to run it with simmilair grafic's.
 
Also, good luck trying to find a equivalent processor to the cell. It's such a odd design that comparing it to and AMD or C2D is like comparing apples and oranges. God knows what kind of untapped potential that thing has. It could just as easily be a Pentium 3 in disguise.
 
The biggest difference between consoles and PC's is, as mentioned, nearly all processing power can be devoted to the game. Also realize the processor architecture might be different than PCs and aimed more for games. Also, this is more a factor with older systems, but look at the resolutions they ran at. Many were basically limited to 720x480. Newer systems are hitting HD resolutions now...

The Xbox was a Pentium III(I have heard some were Celerons!) 733MHz with a Geforce2 GTS graphics card. I had almost an identically spec'd system at home, and it wasn't nearly as powerful as the Xbox :P
 
A lot of the difference comes down to the flexibility required for PC (for different hardware, different versions of Windows, etc.), and the single OS and hardware used for the console. Furthermore, do you get a Blu-ray drive in your computer for that price? Heck no! Overall, the PS3 is actually quite a good deal..., and a great awesomely powerful system.

Another nice thing about consoles is you dont have to update them. A ps3 will last you...well...until the ps4 comes out which hopefully wont be for a few more years. You will always be able to play the latest and greatest PS3 games without ever having to upgrade your hardware (excluding stuff like harddrives, controllers, etc.)

But... there are plenty of reasons for getting a PC instead but i think this argument has been posted many times.
 
ya a ps3 is better. like a computer. you can run linux on it!!!! so it is like a computer but i dont think the drivers work and you can use it for a blu-ray player...

standerd player... 600$ ps3... 599$

do the math :P
 
i'd sell the blu-ray player in the ps3 then sell the ps3 for parts, make a few bucks

Are you being sarcastic? You'd actually lose a lot of money if you did that. After all, who would buy loose ps3 components?
 
PS3 has a main processor with a main core and an additional 7 smaller cores they are optimised for doing 3D calculations but can also run other calculations. They allow a shit load more graphics processing to join the GPU graphics processor.

video game consoles are like dragsters developers can get every inch of power and use all the tricks as their all identicle. Also video games run in a much lower resolution than PC us PC gamers sit right upto the screen so we like our 1600 x 1200 rez that requires alot more computing power for the same graphics as the lower rez consoles.

The best PC you could build would give developers 6 times more processing power than you need to run BioShock on full. PC hardware is already way ahead of consoles but who can afford it.

Actually...you do have to "update" them....if you have a 360 you do anyways. I mean with the 360, you have to "update" (go buy a new one to replace your old one) every few months...lol.
