hey everyone.

i've got a problem with my desktop computer.
I bought a band new Gate Way GT4023E little while back. and ever since i've owned it i'v had software/hardware problems.

mainly my USB ports.

All of my ports, front and rear act the same.

I'll have my printer plugged in, wont be able to print off anything if my computer has been on for 30 or so minutes with the printer not being active or not printing anything.
same goes for everything else, cant upload pictures off of my digital camera after 30 or so minutes if it wasnt active soon after everything loaded up.

all though, my wireless mouse and keyboard, which are ran off of 2 differant ports, and both use USB ports, will work non stop, guessig because they are constantly active.

my webcam also does te same thing with not working.

now what i have figure dout, known this for awile. as soon as i restart my computer, and open the program or use the device, it will work fine.

same problem goes along with my scanner, wont work untill restart.

also, another problem. my computer wont automatically read disc's i put into my cd rom, i have to go to my computer and type on the drive to open software.

anyone got any ideas?
any ideas on what driver is messed up or where i can download the driver/software to fix this?

i've tried restoring my computer to the date i bought it on, still acts up.

well thanks for reading this, and thanks a bunch more if u can help

Start --> Run --> Type "devmgmt.msc" --> Goto Universal Serial Bus Controllers --> Go to each one's properties and check for a "Power Management" section and uncheck the box that says something like "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

im not hitting or typing anything when i insert a disc.

praetor im trying that now.

edit-

when i get to the 3rd driver or whatever.
which is the
"standard enhanced PCI to USB host controller"
and i go to click on Resources it freezes. not my computer
just that window
all the other catagories work fine
general,advanced,driver and details.
then when i hit resources. it screws up.

wow another one does the same
the "Standard OpenHCD USB host controller"
acts the same way

i think i got it!!

the last 2 were both USB roots and both had power managements
and both had the save power box checked

im going to try some things out to see if anything worked

thank you!!

Have a look see if you have the latest chipset drivers installed :)

Yup that be it :)

im not sure how to check to see if things are up to date.

but it sure is acting the same way.
went back and looked to see if the box's re checkrd them selves.
nope still blank.

restarted my computer also

Then dont! (it's prolly easier not to check lol)... just grab the latest drivers and install them anyways! :)

As for the stuff turning off, not only are there power options for the USB hubs, youll need to run through each and every single of the devices that is giving tou a problem and checking if that is turning off :)

yea..

the thing is. idk where to pick these drivers up at.

kinda hard to check every device lol, the 2 i stated earlier still are being stubborn

Try the people who make the product. My guess is the intel INF chipset drivers should work for you (unless you've got an AMD box at which point that wouldnt be the wisest thing to do)

Well that would be indicitive of a bigger problem :P

Also, worth checking is any BIOS power saving.

i do infact have AMD, i tried contacting Gateway with no reply,

i have the power settings with everything being on, nuthing being marked to turn off or shut down
