Just becuase I have a nivada northbridge doesnt mean that I need a nivada gpu right? I can still hook up an ati gpu onto the motherboard right?
 
of course you can, northbirdge and southbridge chipsets do not govern the brand or manufacturer of cards whatsoever. You are free to add in whichever GPU you feel like
