Hi,

I'm not sure which area to post this because it spans 3 or 4. I have just ordered a new mobo on impulse and have noticed it is focused for overclockers and in turn loosed out on features (Gigabyte SKT-1366 X58A-OC)

I'm on my phone at the moment so troling the net is tricky. What my question boils down to is I have 4x PCI-E x16 ports and 1x PCI slot. I now need to purchase a sound card and Wifi card (USB is not an option), what can I do?

P.s. I'm on a shoe string budget and would appreciate a quick response because I may cancel my order and opt for a different mobo that has more USB and a built in sound card.

Thanks,
Jon

I think you may have to change the motherboard, if you want both a soundcard and wi-fi card.

Your motherboard only has one pci slot, and unusually it has no mini pci slot.

Nearly all the sound cards and wi-fi cards connect via, ordinary pci slot, or a very small mini pci slot.

If you do not want to use a usb wireless adapter, i think you will have to choose a motherboard that has either 2 pci slots or 1 pci slot and 1 mini pci slot.

Yeah, I noticed that they were running at 8x but that's not an issue if I could get a card that could fit that as the full speed would not be needed for anything but a graphics card.

P.s. USB is not possible due to the lack in USB ports. If no PCI e cards are around I will cancel the order which will be disapointing :(

I was a bit confused why my username was wrong and it told me I last logged in in 2006 :P.

Thats true but I have always found driver issues when doing this in the past especially with WiFi dongles.

These will work with PCI-e x8 and x4 but those that are cheep are not so good, the expensive ones are not so good for the wallet. Best bet is get a different MOBO!!

You can get 4 Port USB 2.0 PCI-Express x1 Card but why spend the $20 when you can get a mobo with up to 8 usb ports.

I post the links from Newegg to make it easy to demonstrate what you could purchase. I am not saying to buy from them.

You can buy both on PCIe x1 and use a x16 slot. As long as it is PCIe then you can install it, x16 can use x1, x4, x8, and x16 cards.
