Just bought a Windows XP Pro cd, how many computers can I install it on?

innuendo

I ask because I bought a laptop that came with Vista, changed to XP just to see if it would work, I got it running and all, drivers, etc.. but I now want to change the laptop for another one (same model) because this one has a scratch on the screen I didn't notice before.

Question: What about buying another laptop, bring it home, and switch the hard drives? then I would keep the new laptop with the good screen with the hard drive with the old one with XP already installed. There's a problem, I already validated XP online in the computer with the damaged screen. Does that mean it will ask me to validate it again when I put the "old" hard drive in the new laptop? Will the key work?

this sucks

Is it too complex to change a LCD screen? how much will a 15.4'' cost? Seriously, Is it easy to change? can you do it yourself or it's better to take it to a technician?

Another thing, say I have to format my computer and reinstall Windows XP again, It will keep asking me to validate it again or something?

ok. whooo. that was complex. i think i get what your saying. so if you get a new laptop, no you will not be able to switch the hard drive out. It will be inconpadable and windows will not boot. Also the new laptop will come with a new windows activation.

You can put XP on the new one as long as you get rid of XP off the old one. I think you can activate it 3 times before it stops working but you can only use it on one computer at any one time. So you would need to put a different operating system on the one you have at the moment (e.g. vista, linux)
