Howdy, I just bought a XFX Geforce FX5200 PCI 256mb 256bit graphics card. Now, I know it is not the best card out there but shouldnt it be able to run new games? I try to play battlefield vietnam on it and I have extreme lag and chop even with the graphics at low and a 640X400 resolution! I can't even get passed the intro without chop, it is terrible. It skips every second and is very very irritating because I just paid 120 dollars for this and not seeing anything better than my old intgrated graphics. In fact, my integrated graphics played games better. My system meets all the requirements for the card and well over, but still it doesnt seem to work right. Any Ideas? I have xp pro if that matters and I have installed the newest drivers and all...but who knows...I wrote a nasty letter to xfx who knows if they will answer, but any of you got any ideas??

(don't mean to vent just really pissed)

Do you have agp slot? If you do you should return the geforce 5200 and get your $120 back. Go to new egg and get this instead http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-426&depa=1 it will only cost you $97 and is much much better then your geforce fx 5200.

If you dont have a agp slot I would still return the one you got. geforce fx 5200 256mb are way over priced and performs no difference then the 128mb version. The only reason they make 256 versions is so they can sell it for more money.

If you have agp slot see if getting the radeon 9600 pro fixes all your lag probelms.

EDIT: sorry most this post was pointless since I just relize you have a dell 2400 that dont have a agp slot. You still should return your card. what you got is still way over priced. I would recommend getting this pci card. http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=14-139-166&depa=1 better and cheaper.

I hope you still able to return your card.

No. The 5200 is a POS (sorry it really is, ive got one actually)

1. If possible, return cuz you paid too much
2. Its most likely better than your integrated graphics

Not just that you should try and huntdown 5500s and/or 5700[LEs]

Yes, but shouldnt this card still perform better than integrated graphics???
Yes. And it probably does

I'm suprised that the 5200 has a 256-bit version. I thought they only had 128's.
The core is 256bit (as has every GeForce since the GeForce256 circa a long time ago) but nothing else is 256bit

yall think that the 5700le pci version will run battlefield vietnam lagless...if not what would be the best PCI card... price is doesnt matter...

well if price does not matter get a new motherboard and get a agp card :P but seriously the problem is the geforce fx 5700LE is pretty much the best pci card you can get even if you was willing to spend lots of money.

PCI graphics won't make Battlefield Vietnam or Doom3 playable, no matter what card you might get your hands on. :(

Ok I'm the official downer.

But i dont understand!!! My integrated graphics were capable of playing battlefield vietnam!! shouldnt the pci card atleast be some sort of an improvement?

ok, i have been doing some research...and on newegg all the reviews that i read on certain pci cards say they are great....so i dunno who to belive you guys or the reviews.... so i know ya arent to keen on the idea of pci graphics...but atleast help me out with picking a card because i need something.... should i go with the geforce 5700le that was in a couple of posts back or should i go with this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-434&depa=1
