I've heard lots of people say they found a working computer by the side of the road but I've never been so lucky. Congrats!

I have several older computers like it that I can't seem to even give away. Maybe I should leave them out by the side of the road?

any body want to buy my system, i didn't think anyone wanted stuff that old, although mine's audio is completely broken frome moving to a new case, but it's an old compaq presario sn then a couple more things, idk, works fine i gues,60gb with windows, 700something mb's ram, oem 250watt psu, a radeon 9600se, an athlon xp 2400+, and for 30 more i'll throw in the current case which is the apevia vortex 3620

I have found a few computers. A friend brought one over about two years ago. Found at the road on trash day. Isolated to motherboard or processor. Said keep it.
I wish i would have made a picture of it. The tower was plexiglass. Took out the 500w powersupply that was good. Saved the burner, Seagate Baracuda 250gig drive and 3 gig of memory. And took out all screws and banked for spare parts. Plus a dual video card that i installed on one of my computers. Deals are out there now if ya find them. Love the garage sales too....

Here's why Voyager ok, Dell boxes are notorious for booting up with either Press F2 to Continue or System disk not found etc etc.

Simply disconnecting the ribbon cable is not good enough, it needs to be disabled in the bios.

Dell boxes that don't even have a physical floppy drive have shown the same message.

Don't believe me?

Ask around mate.

Thats a minor anyway. I agree with voyagerfan99. First boot device is likely already the cdrom or should be when needed. Then again for the disc drive if i disabled it i would just take it out and install a blank.

The first boot device should always be the hard drive as it saves milliseconds looking for boot files from an optical drive.

The only time one should change the boot sequence is on a new install, once done change it back to the HDD as the first boot option.

I agree with that too. My computer all roms are disabled as boot device. Straight to windows 7. If i need to wipe or had a problem then yes, i change the boot device to first dvd rom.

Depending on the boot set up Strollin it might only seem to be a few seconds while it, and please pardon the pun, strolls through a set up which could be;

Floppy
CDROM
Network

Every second counts.

You do realize you changed the wait time by a factor of 1000X, right? You originally stated you would save a few milliseconds, now you say seconds. Which is it? :D

Don't really mean to pick on you but in the big picture a couple of seconds during boot time isn't a big deal to me. I usually set things to boot from HDD first but if they aren't set that way it's no biggie for me.

the delay is seconds. its about fast as you can make it. the rom might rev then a delay then detects nothing then boots. Not milliseconds. speed might be 6 seconds for each device checked.
Guessing but close.

Well one might ask how long is a piece of string Strollin.

Factors like cpu and memory could affect the boot time.

However it is a moot point anyway. :)

A mere bagatelle in other words.

It Just Doesnt Feel Right Sending An Old Computer To The Dump Or To Be Recycled If It Works...

Hey Guys, I Just Installed A 60 GB Quantum Fireball SLAVE Drive For Backing Up My Files... it works nice too and the problem with the dual disk drives... Solved
