Just got a new laptop

Its a dell inspirion intel dual core 1.83 ghz, 2 gig ram, 256 radieon x1400 graphics card and I bought a laptop cooler but sometimes it still gets up in the 60s and mostly fluxuates from mid 40s-50s. It idles pretty low sometimes.

Any advice on getting it to run cooler? Id like to try and overclock but not at these temps, and even if I don't overclock I would be far more comfortable staying under 55 at all times.

Any advice would be great, thanks!

i put it at the recommended which is 3069, max is 4092 it was at just over 2k

already seeing a HUGE difference.

Would 3069 be good, or could i go higher? I dont know much about virtual memory. never fooled with it before.

Any other little things like this that help system performance?

Thanks

Adding more virtual memory would probably make it run HOTTER. If I did anything with the virtual memory, I'd disable it so the HD wouldn't be used for the swap file.

You can't expect a semi-high performace laptop to run cool now-of-days. There's probably not much you can do to make it run much cooler. You might try something like SpeedSwitchXP and underclock it. As I say often, I run my laptop at 800MHz. For web browsing, it's not that noticably slower, but it runs a good bit cooler. You might also look into something that could control the fan manually. I think the same site that has SpeedSwitch also has a fan program for Dells.

and i think the virtual memory comment was just on system performance since i already mentioned about overclocking too

Virtual memory and overclocking have nothing in common, particually adding more to the swap file. Again, that's going to slow things down, if anything!
