i just got my WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL SP2b in the mail today...i want to put it onto my Compaq laptop because i lost my internet connections, among a list of others, du to some unknown problem so i want to start over.

do i just put the cd in and turn the computer on? or how would i go about removing the WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION that is currently on the computer?

i've heard about a "clean install" but dont know anything more than the term.

is there anyone who can help me!?

THANKS!

okay what you need to do is make sure your laptop is set to boot from cd in the bios.

then put your Xp pro cd in the drive,Restart the laptop and follow the onscreen instructions.
format the drive and this will get rid of Xp home and then choose to install Xp pro on the formatted drive.

its quite easy aslong as you follow the screen instructions ;)

do it that way if u don't have any files u want to save

after it has finished formatting the laptop will restart and the push any key to boot from cd will appear dont or you will of restarted the whole process again, and it might be a good idea to get the motherboard drivers before you do it because you could end up with no sound and if you have a built in wifi that might not work either so do some reserch and find the drivers put them on a cd and after windows has finished installing ,install the drivers, good luck.
