i just loaded ubuntu on my laptop and its the first computer ive seen with this os on it. i like it its clean and everything looks good. but how do i get my wireless internet to work?? i can only get on the internet with it plugged in.

can you be more specific. like it is probily a brodcom but maybe not. also i think ubuntu will be able to use ndiswrapper. however it is complex and takes a long time to get it up.

i looked all over and i just dont understand what any of the instructions say. i need to be brought through everything if that possible. can sombody do that for me?

i would but dont have ubuntu and dont have a good internet now to download it. can in a week if someone doesent want to do it first

i cant really wait til next week although if i cant get anyone to help me by then then you could help me. but im going out of town thursday so i want to get my wireless internet working by then because the place where im staying has it. so if anyone can guide me through everything i need to do to get my wireless working i would shurely appreciate it.

thanks

what wireless card is in there?

intel? Broadcom? etc

You may have to download additional drivers/firmware to get the wifi card to work. The ndiswrapper just allows you to use the windows driver for your wifi card, its not the greatest thing in the world either.

it may be different but the best i could find on google was what i posted

Acer InviLink 802.11b/g

its a Acer InviLink 802.11b/g. Im not familiar with the whole ndiswrapper thing. I dont know how to get to it or anything. I dont know how to do anything on ubuntu.lol

np. i just need the kernel version(uname -r). once i have that i can see if ndiswrapper will work or not. we will do my best with out linux to guide you

I'm guessing its a broadcom card most likely.....

What exact versions of Ubuntu are you running? Have you searched their forums to see if anyone has the same laptop as you and is running Linux with their wifi, perhaps this topic has already been discussed.
