Just Need some help

I'm most probably a lot older than most of you :D and I am truly excited about how technology has advanced and how the youth of the world are taking it to it's to the limit:eek: That being said;

I am NOT a gamer
I am NOT a serious multi-tasker
I do NOT store everything and anything
I LIKE to research.
I LIKE to surf
I LIKE video clarity
I LIKE quick reponse
I LIKE dependibility

Question;

If you were to rate all the bundled packages that major retailers put together, as self proclaimed computer guru's who put their systems together for their OWN PERSONAL needs (and I am sure most of you fall into this category) Who is it? HP, DELL, IBM, ACER etc...etc...etc....(ad nauseum)....that puts together the right component mix for general Joe public like me? And what do manufacturers that create these bundles do that is innapropriate in your opinion. ie; enough/poor compatibility memory, inadequate match video cardversus corresponding LCD's, bad motherboard/processor combo's, insufficiant cache, mismatched HD, DVD players/writers, multimedia, home theatre limitations etc.............

Taking into consideration MY limited needs, but an obvious need for speed, I believe YOUR help would go a long way in my choosing a system, for me, something that fits ME. Bundle or build $$$$? Recommendations appreciated.

going with dells, they have virtually everything, from computers that you would be interested in, to gaming, to business, etc...

For what you will be using it for, it doesnt really matter what you choose. Personally, i would go to your local BestBuy or CircuitCity and pick up a computer for around $500 when they have a good sale. I find HP's and Dells to be the best in my experience.

If you don't like a lot of the junk Dell puts on the their PCs, you can just formet the drive. Dell PCs are pretty reliable but I've never owned one, just used one. I've had about three Compaqs before I built my own and they were also very good. I can only recommend Compaq as I am not too familiar with the inner components of Dells but I know one of my older Compaqs had 16A on the 12V on the compaq PSU which was excellent for the age of it.

BUT with all those things you said:

It looks like you might be interested in getting a Mac. They are very reliable and built much better than anything Dell or any other PC manufacturers can do. I would recommend a cheap iBook, I saw one on TV for about $1000. Or if you want to go desktop, search around the Apple website. If I weren't a gamer, I wouldn't think twice about getting a Mac. However, it might take a little bit getting used to OSX as opposed to Windows XP if you've always been stuck on Windows but it really isn't much different.
