hi all,

The boot process hangs on these words:

verifying DMI Pool data.

Then:

NTLDR is missing, press cntrl+alt+delete to restart.

What is NTLDR?

Thanks!

NTLDR is a boot file and is needed!! Looks like you have to reformat or do a system restore if you have the restore disks.

Did you buy this computer or build it yourself? If purchased, is this the first time you're turning it on?

oh never mind, turned out I just had to change the boot order
to dvd/cd drive first.

This is a completely new computer build. the windows xp disk
is now formatting the HD. whew.

Sweet.

yes I built it myself. This is like being an astronaut in the apollo 11
pod: it took a while to get the nerve to turn it on!

Heh. First-time build?

No, but it's it's the first time I built one completely from
scratch, and it's been a few years.

So I'm extremely relieved all the parts seem to be
good, at least so far.

ohm y....babysitting this thing through the software setup.....

Thanks for the advice and quick response!

No prob. The reason i know that about that file is b/c i had to copy that file and a couple other boot files to my flash drive in order to boot xp from the flash drive.

well I'm still having a problem. After formatting the HD, it starts the
reboot, and then it hangs again on:

verifying DMI Pool data.

and it just sits there. I let it sit for a long time,
and it truly did hang. I always hate the reboot part
of a new windows install.

help.....maybe I should try installing some kind of Linux just
to get it going, I'm waiting for windows xp pro 64 bit to come in
the mail anyway.

hey ya'll,

The problems was the HD alright. I disconnected it and put in another
one, and the install went just fine! So now I have a computer yay!

This is an known error. Well its called bootmgr for vista. If you installed the OS and you got it. You can 1. Restart the pc with the bios on cd boot first and pat in the xp disc and do a repair under (boot up) 2. When you restart the pc pount on esc and it will bring up boot menu followed by harddrive, select the hard drive and your away. I suggest do no.1 as you will be using it for a year or so. I'm doing 2 atm as on april 6th i'm getting leopard for my pc. 'goes back and downloads kalyway:cool:

Edit: that was for yr first post.
