Just Venting

Boy, I'm really starting to regret getting Vista. The deal that prodded me to getting it now was that if one buys Vista Ultimate they can upgrade another computer to Home Premium for $49. Well, for some reason when I try to purchase the additional upgrade the order will not show some letters/numbers I need to enter to complete the purchase. Additionally, when I try to get email or online help (being hearing impaired I don't use the phone) I am advised that there will be a $59 charge. My undersdtanding was that I got 90 days of help at no charge. Now, I just found out Microtek will not have a driver for my i900 scanner for 5 months and no telling when HP will have one for my PhotoSmart 7960 printer. I did a clean install, I wish I could just go back to XP Pro and get my money back from Staples. Thanks for letting me vent, I'm not sure if I feel any better though.

It took forever for Microsoft to develop the what ever the hall it is called before, they changed it to Vista after it took so long. I guess they hope people will not notice. M$ sucks for releasing it so early when it is not even fully functional yet.

I am going back to xp media center too. F#$@#$ Vista. People if you have XP stay with it. Forget about Vista before M$ get all the D@#$@#$ S@#$@#$ fully functional.

I am going back to xp media center too.

I would like to but when I try I'm told that the installed OS is newer and therefore I can't. This is well beyond funny to me. I can't load PhotoShop CS2 and that one thing alone would keep me from using Vista. I have piles of photos to edit. My wife's desktop would be way too slow if I loaded my photo programs and used it. I really would like to get XP installed again and then I will worry about getting my money back from MS (Staples).

I don't know if there is any other way to fix your problem beside the one that i am thinking right now.

1. backup all the picture and files that you need.
2. take out the hard drive from your pc and connect it to your wife's pc as a slave drive. (if you don't have any device that is big enough to backup all your files, you can backup your pictures and files by copy and past them all to your wifes hard drive.) NOTE: make sure you set the jumper on your hard drive to slave. you should be able to tell by looking at the jumper setting diagrams on the surface of the hard drive.
3. Turn on the Pc. if you get the jumpers right everything should be fine.
4. goto your hard drive's manufacture site to download the hard drive formate utilities and use it to formate your hard drive. (you can also use different hard drive formating tools, do a google search)
5. take out the hardrive from your wife's pc after it finished formating and put it back to your pc after switch the jumper to its original setting.
6. turn on your pc and put in the xp cd
7. follow the install instructions
8. your done.

Good luck

Wouldn't be easier to create second partition and store all the data on the new one?
And just clear the C: while installing...
Would be also easier with future os re-instalation.

To reinstall XP, just boot to your XP cd, delete the vista partition, repartition, format and install XP. But thats of course if you've already backed up any data that you need saved....

I have installed and am running 'System Commander'. It is taking it's sweet time 'analyzing' the system. It never took anywhere this long before (45 mins), perhaps it can't work with Vista either. All my files are backed up, I use an external hard drive just for this purpose and it is programed to add any new files as they are made. I want to kill something. Can't kill my service dog, wife or the cat...wait...why not the cat? I have 3 internal hard drives. 2 of them (180GB each) are configured as RAID 0. The other (80GB) is used only as a scratch disc.

I give up. I can't seem to deal with Vista. I'm going to take my computer to the shop in a bit and have drive 'C' (2x160GB-RAID 0) formated. Then I can reinstall XP Pro. I have no idea what to expect when I return Vista to Staples. I hope I don't have a difficult time with them.

I took my computer in to have drive 'C' formatted (cost-$50). I returned the Vista program and was only asked why but didn't get any hassle (thanks Staples). Soon I should be back to normal, with XP.

You could have saved yourself the 50 bucks and used the XP cd to to delete the partition of Vista, repartition and then reinstall XP.
