Just wondering

That's like asking if a hammer is better at putting in a nail than a screwdriver is at putting in a screw. The PS3's hardware is better on paper than that card. But the software coding and games in general are completely different, so that's really hard to have a definite yes or no answer...

I believe in terms of raw power the PS3 is more capable, but again the way that computers use the resources is so different from consoles that you can't really fairly compare the two. I'll look again, though.

Well yeah, I know the PS3 can devote all it's power to gamming, but I still figured if you just compared GPUs, the 8800 series would be more capable.

Yeah, you're right, it took awhile to track down the exact information, but quite a few of the evaluating features point towards the 8800. However, like I said before the PS3 is one set hardware configuration, where the 8800 could be put in with many other possible setups... So, can the 8800 GTX be more powerful than a PS3? Potentially yes, but due to the basic differences I would be hesitant to completely say yes.

Oh, and here's the charts I found: (XBox 360's on there too, :))

*Edit: And don't forget that you'll also be running that 8800 probably on a Windows OS computer (I'm assuming), so you have to factor that into the discussion as well...

With that card you probably have to wait until dx10 game out to see the true power of it. which mean vista is a must. Darn that going to be some $ you have to spend on new gpu and os.

well, if your a student, you can pre order vista for about 60-70 dollars, i forget where though.

Just google acedemic software. I think the site removed it for now but I know you can get it for $69 in jan. when it comes out.
Edit: It is the home premium version.
