Hey people,

Just wondering for those of you that have Vista,.how you guys keep it running smoothly?

like because after so many months it starts to get slow, maybe it just me but what you reccomend to keep it as fast just like a clean install?

i erad on here someone runs CCLeaner everytime they shutdown their pc to clean out the cache and stuff like that but what else?

Share your tips ;)

1. Uninstall things you don't use

2. Remove things from startup http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

3. Disable UAC (or keep it on and use this http://www.vistarewired.com/2007/06/30/put-uac-in-quiet-mode)

4. Run CCleaner

5. If you can afford it, keep the comp running 24/7. Mine runs better if I don't have to restart. Also, the extra caching features of Vista work better while your comp is running for a while.

6. Disable thumbnails on task bar (unless you really want them)

Vista is pretty good at keeping itself running fast. My startup programs include: an FTP server, a prog that changes by wallpaper every minute, PVR schedule software, email checking program, Trillian, ObjectDock, and speech recognition. With all that my mem usage is under 900MB upon startup and it never goes above that unless I open something else like firefox, as soon as i close FF it goes back under 900MB.

Defrag and AVG scan. Ive never got slower after months. My laptop has had the same install for over a year now, not a problem at all. Still as fast as when I got it.

Same install since its release, and nightly defrags and CCleaning and virus scanning.

Keep it updated, run ccleaner like once a week, Filter startup tasks, keep background programs to a minimum, use avast, you know, maitenance stuff. A computer is like a car, it needs maintenance.
