Keeping my external cool

I wasnt really sure if i should put this post in the Computer Cases, Power Supplies and Cooling thread or this one. but i decided this one because it has to do with a specific external hard drive. anyways
I have a 1 TB simpletech External hardrive. it is in a little enclosure. I keep it connected to my Computer all the time. I often worry about it overheating. I live in Texas and its often over 100 degrees outside and my room doesnt get very good air-conditioning. it is no where near sunlight but i often worry about it overheating. i use it contently otherwise i would keep it unplugged. is there anything i can do to keep it cool? or am i being paranoid? Ive thought about building it a little box with more fans on it (it has a fan in it) but i didnt know how i would power the computer fans in it since there is no power supply in the box i would build.
 
during the day it probebly gets to about 90 in my room but in the mid afternoon my airconditioning tends to work better for some reason. but between 11 am and 3pm its very hot in here. i just dont want anything bad to happen to it
 
Why dont you just turn it off when you are not using it? I also have the same external hard drive as you but i only use it for back-up.
 
90 is defiently on the warmer side but I don't think you'll have a problem. Although, as suggested above it wont hurt to turn it off when you can.
 
Your hard drive should be ok, Modern drives are designed to take a bit of heat.
vibration and impact is the biggest killer of drives.
 
No, when I stated vibration I had an external HD with a baldly balanced fan which eventually caused the drive to fail and it is known fact accidental dropping or HD receiving an impact of any description will most likely lead to failure.
Mounting hard drives with foam/rubber only helps in reducing noise levels.
