hello, this is my first post so please be kind. I have a mother board problem. I might have blown out whatever controls the keyboard, boot up freezes and I get a keyboard error and thats as far as I can go, I tried everything and sent it to my friend that built it and he said the mother board needs replacing, problem 2..the mother board is about 4 years old an albatron px 845 478 pin intel chipset revision pro..any assistance on a new board would help..thanxs

update, thankyou for the responses, I tried using a usb keyboard and mouse but since the comp. would not boot the bios does not recognise either and still gives me a keyboard error, unless someone knows how to boot up and have the bios recognise them..

Does the pc have usb? You could try a usb keyboard.. If it truely is the mobo and its needing replacement its probably cheaper to just get a new mobo and processor combo...

It depends on what you should do... I mean... yes you could replace the mobo and perhaps discover you have reinstall the OS again, because of the chipset!

Another avenue, is the replace the cpu, memory, and mobo with a later technology system to expand and upgrade. After all, you will need to reinstall the os if there isn't any chipset mobo around like the one you are using, and if you are using Windows XP. It requires a chipset similar to work without losing any info and data.

Being that the PC is over 4 years old, it's time to consider that possibly.

Otherwise, it's a matter of finding a chipset in the 478 socket mobo to try to replace. It might be difficult, unless you search e-bay or something.

Just my 2 cents, can take it or not. But, DO KEEP in MIND about the OS scenario. It will make the difference if you intend to upgrade the mobo.

But, on a last resort... try a USB keyboard & mouse. It might prolong your problem for now!
