Keyboard acting strange... caps lock problem...

Ocassionally I'll be typing and all of the sudden my letters are in all Caps without the Caps lock on. Even my number keys type the symbols instead of the numbers. I can lock the Caps key and the letters are then lower case but number keys still type symbols... *^$^$&$#

Actually it's almost as if my Shift key is stuck... because everything is typing as though I was holding down the Shift key.

Any ideas what could cause this? Is there a couple of keys I could hit accidentally that would lock the shift key?

Your Shift key is stuck, the Caps Lock has no impact on the number keys, so that's why the numbers are coming up as symbols... Either try taking off all the keys and cleaning the keyboard, or just buy a new one...

Well it's on a laptop and a new one at that... been doing it since I got it, but only occasionally.

I have taken the shift keys and caps keys off and checked them closely but they appear to be clean.

I have also taken them off when it was stuck on shift and didn't notice anything wierd.

Seems like most of the time to get it unstuck I hit the shift key and the j key... but I can't say that's what has always got it unstuck.

It's not like it is physically sticking but as though I've accidentally hit some combination of keys typing too fast and entered some code for the shift key to lock.

I'm not aware of any combination of keys to turn the shift key on. If it's not that old, I would just send it in to the manufacturer, hopefully it should be still under warranty. It could also be the circuit board underneath is faulty somehow...

It's still under warranty.

If there is not any code to turn on shift lock then it is probably as you say, a faulty circuit board.
