Keyboard Driver Help!

Hi, I'm new here.

I was just wondering whether anybody knew how to fix the keyboard problem at the moment.

I am using the inbuilt keyboard on my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop and recently (within the last week) I have typed in the letter 'p' and it would come up with a random stream of letters, also if I typed apostrophe it would close the program I was using as well as the colon, zero and forward slash key being affected (There may be more but it mainly the right hand side of the keyboard. Enter, Backspace and Shift are fine).

It has completely baffled me. At first I thought it was a virus but I was told that it was definitely not a virus but something to do with my actual keyboard. Any help will be much appreciated!

no, numlock is not on but when I press the 'p' button it turns numlock on as well as pressing the buttons on the front of my laptop, either starting up meia centre or changing the volume.

And it happens in all programs. It happens in (I have tried these) Mrcrosoft Office Word and Outlook, Internet Explorer, Opera, Windows Live Messenger and Notepad.
 
I don't know.
Maybe its a problem with wiring.


Don't get too worried, I don't know a lot about that sort of thing so you might get some better help.

It's just really bugging me, I'm on my mums computer at the moment but I would like to be able to use my laptop! :P

It seems to have stopped since my laptop overheated this morning (Silly Me). But it is a very on off thing so I will see if it is fixed permantly
 
Yeah, if it temporarily fixed the problem when the laptop overheated, then it is more likely a hardware issue. Perhaps see if you can get a replacement keyboard for the same model laptop. If you can, then it's a simple matter of switching out the keyboard.
 
OK, Thanks for your help.

I'll see what I can do. The problem hasn't come back yet... but if it does I think I will just buy a USB keyboard rather than try and replace the one in my laptop.

Does your laptop go portable and maybe just enquire on a price for a replaceable keyboard for your laptop
