Keyboard problems

HI,

I recently built a pc. It booted fine and everything started working. Then one day it kept giving me keyboad error saying that it would not find a keyboard connected. So after trying a series of things I decided to reset the bios thinking that maybe the bios setting for the keyboard was wrongly configured. Upon doing this, now my pc starts and freezes at the black introduction screen asking me to press F1 to update the cmos settings. That is fine and all however, the problem that I am having is that I can't press F1 because my keyboard does not respond, it also makes this screeching sound. I've tried to switch keyboards with both PS2 and USB ports and nothing is happening.

Can someone give me some advice, or help me?

Does the keyboard work in BIOS? Check both and let me know.
Well..........
the problem that I am having is that I can't press F1 because my keyboard does not respond

@alienyde:
Can you check the keyboard on/from a different computer?

usb at the back of the pc which is connected to the motherboard.
Naturally I assume you've tried a different USB port?

In any case, what is the make and model of the system. Have a look at QUESTIONS 101 to see the kinda info I'm looking for

Here is my info...

MSI KT4V (VIA KT400 Chipset)
AMD Sempron 2300+ socket 462
512Mb PC3200 DDR RAM
Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM
AGP 8x 32bit Video card

i had the same problem with the freezing, i jus needed to replace the CPU. if u have an extra... try it see if it works.

The other 2 key boards you tryed that didn't work, are they both USB? Maybe you don't have it enabled in the bios if it is, I would try a PS/2 keyboard to test.

I know its not the cpu because everything worked before all this perfectly, then just out of the blue, the keyboard does not work....and as for the other keyboards that i've tried....one was usb and the other ps2...the one that I am working with is another ps2 keyboard.

Hum, the only think i can think of it that maybe you blew your PS/2 port for the keyboard and you don't have USB enabled in the bios. Have you tryed to boot in to windows with the USB keyboard? Also have you tested the USB ports with another divice to see if they work?

Prior to all of this..I was able to go through windows with everything working including my usb ports...I have a flash memory and digital camera that I had plug into it so I know that it had worked...now since I removed the battery earlier...all those settings are gone now so I would guess that the usb port is disabled...as for the ps2 port...it used to work and now for some reason my keyboard is non responsive....Is there some sort of keyboard/ps2 controller or anything like that on the motherboard that I don't know about? or could the cmos jumpers near the battery be on wrong?

Im almost positive this isnt the situation.....but...to be absolutely sure, you arent plugging the ps/2 keyboard plug(purple) into the mouse plug (green) right? I have to ask, b/c if u are...the keyboard wont respond. So double check that...it can be pretty dark at the back of a computer under a desk....and just think...this problem u have may be a simple situation to fix if all you did was mix up the plugs...because they are the same plug. *crossing fingers* :)

Whether this makes sense or not, ive found that sometimes just taking everything apart and putting it back together gets it to work :)

Thanks very much for all your help guys but I gave up and sent my pc to get repaired. This problem has been happening for too long now so I gave up.
