I recieve a no key board detected about 1/2 the time starting my computer. I have to turn off computer and restart it. it then goes into bios mode when restarting. I then exit bios leaving everything the same, then it goes into windows and works fine. This is intermitent (doesn`t always happen). Is this a bios updating problem or something else. Please help
 
Often the PS2 connector gets stretched a little where the plug for the keyboard will be loose. If the keyboard has a removable PS2 connector revealing a usb plug ot you have a usb adapter try plugging into a port to see if that gets results. If you are already using a port try the opposite or on another system to see if the keyboard is worn.
 
A stretched connector on the board or loose contact would gum up the works there seeing an intermittent problem at times if the board itself is not seeing a fault developing. Here the mouse connector on the old board got a little stretched one day while moving the case in and out of the desk when it bumped the wall. I then had to keep it plugged into a rear usb port right nect to the usb printer plug, dsl, and whatever.

If the connector has been pulled on hard the chance of loose pins or even a cold solder point on the inside would explain a sudden appearance of the problem. The other item namely the board itself may be seeing a component failure where now some part is heating up until it gives out.

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH...now i get it.:cool:
 
If it is an old or low end keyboard I may have simply tossed it into the recycle bin and bought a new. But if you spent some $50-70 or more on it you naturally want to see if that is the problem. Too often it is from wear and tear seeing a loose contact or even broken wire in the cable itself. Trying a different keyboard will tell right off if there is a problem on the board like the connector socket seeing damage.
