Kicked off the Net after 2 to 5 minutes!

My sister has DSL and runs her business on the Internet.

Her ISP was bought by another company last week, and all of a sudden she gets kicked off the Internet (disconnected) after 2 to 5 minutes.

The new ISP (located 45 miles from my sister's town) said "maybe" all she needed was a new modem. They are sending her a new modem but they aren't sure when. Yikes!

Anyway, can anyone think of WHY she's getting kicked off the Internet after 2 to 5 minutes AND is there any way she could diagnose and/or fix the problem herself?

They might have some type of authentification for their modems and if her modem isn't registered with them, they could hault the connection. That's mainly a guess, but she should probably call and find out when she's getting her modem. That will probably help.
