kinda new to comp

Hi, I have an Emachines W3507 with a 512 mb memory and was wondering about changing timer and volt settings if at all possible. Eventually I will upgrade memory to 2gb (2 x 1gb) but was wondering if i could speed up the stock equipment until then. I'm kinda new to computers so I also don't have much of an idea on how to do such a thing. Would I have to turn the comp on in safe mode or could I change settings w/o? Help would be much appreciated?

you would be best using BIOS for any changes to hardware clock speeds, however.... if you are as new to pc's as you seem to sound, I wouldn't go messing about with timings/voltages etc otherwise you'll find yourself spending a LOT more time in CF and for all the WRONG reasons!!

Just wait till you can afford the RAM upgrade you mentioned, believe me - it will probably be a LOT cheaper in the long run than changing burnt out CPU's and Mobos!!

I don't think an emachines will have the BIOS support you need to overclock and adjust voltages.

Well I'm learning, and I don't think it has BIOS. I kinda looked for it already just to check it out and I couldn't find any BIOS for the RAM

Usually it's F2 whilst loading the operating system(during POST-the black screens with all the system info at start up) just keep tapping the F2(or whichever key it is for your BIOS)

It can be the delete key or another key as well, in any event it will say when you first power your computer on. Look for the prompt at the first screen you see before the windows loading bar shows up.

NO not at all, Safe Mode is a limited driver/App mode used for diagnosing and solving issues with software/hardware problems.

BIOS is outside of any softwares/OS's installed on your machine. It's a bit like the brain behind your hardware , telling which part to operate as what.

It's what's running when you see the emachines logo when you first power your machine on. It should have a prompt that says press Delete (or F#) key to enter setup.

yes, BIOS settings are outside of the OS/OS's you have installed because they change hardware settings.

The F10 was most definately your BOOT order menu, where you can choose which device you want to boot from be it- hard drive,CD/DVD drive,Floppy,USB Device.

Just keep tapping the F2 during those screens where you saw it and it will take you into BIOS options(DON'T CHANGE ANY SETTING unless you KNOW what you're doing!!!!!!!)
