KUbuntu questions

Okay, so I really like the whole KDE GUI on Kubuntu. but I'm new to anything linux, so, I thought I'd ask some stuff about it cause i'm having a hard time using it:

1) I accidentally closed the window for the desktop. how do i get it back?

2) the internet is terribly slow..how can i speed it up?

3) actually, the system acts like its using alot of RAM. why is linux running so much slower than XP?

4) i found that kubuntu can read all the drives on my computer. i have a drive that has all my media on it. how can i make a shortcut on the desktop for easy access

5) what is dolphin exactly?

im having more trouble but these are what i really want to know. thanks for any help.

1)sudo startx

2)depends on a lot of things...

3)If it's KDE4 (which is included in Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex) it's heavier than Windows XP.

4)Right click on desktop, create launcher.

5)A file manager.

for the internet connection, when i use xp it runs fine. but on linux download speeds are terrible and it has a hard time keeping a connection.

about the interface running slow, is there anything i can install or disable that will cause it to run smoother?

Well, you have to remember that KDE4 is still a little unstable... your best bet would be to use either Gnome or KDE3.5.
