Labtop for HD Video Editing/Rendering?

So for the past several months, I've been saving up fro the Mac Book Pro 13". Now that I have the money, I am starting to become unwilling to spend that much for a laptop.

I was originally going to buy the computer, use Mac OS 10.6 for everything, minus Sony Vegas Pro 9 with Windows XP under a separate partition (because I dislike iMovie).

Are there any GOOD laptops that are a FRACTION of that price that I can buy that will allow me to edit and render HD videos (less than 10 minute videos) without tons of lag while editing? Thanks!

Well obviously the MacBook Pro would be one of the most professional choices to edit on as most production companies use it (Sans the unix rendering) and the final cut software is pretty simple to use and is extremely powerful. I edit 1080P video on my 13" 2009 version and even though it's 1280x800 it works as mine is laid out as:
