Setting up LAN, tried 2 routers...each with different results
So guys i am setting up a lan with the following

1: 4 laptops (connected wirelessly)
2: 1 mobile phone that sends an SMS
3: 4 printers (ethernet ports, RJ-45 cables)

So basically i have tested two routers and have remarkably different results

DLink Router

- printers print immediately on request
- SMS triggers immediately
- laptops crash and disconnect at times...

My router from my internet service provider

- printers have a 10 second delay before printing
- SMS does not even trigger
- no crashing, haven't had a single disconnection

So why such different results, and considering the above setup could anyone recommend a sturdy router? I have been thinking of going for a Linksys, people generally have their iffies with Dlink, but linksys semes pretty solid across the board....thoughts??

hit the nail on the head John, it's a modem/router combo. As for the incorrect settings, I am not sure, i mean it does print, but seems to have an extensive delay......

I need to have a wired router that also supports wireless because of the ethernet printers and wireless laptops

What is the model number of modem/router unit? What needs to happen is one of 2 things. If the wireless routers are near one another...

1. Enable bridging option on the modem/router if it has it available and let the dlink router handle everything.

If thery aren't near each other then...

2. Leave bridging off, dhcp and wireless on. Take an ethernet cable from the lan side of the modem/router and plug it into one of the lan ports on the dlink, DO NOT plug it into the internet port. On the dlink router, Turn dhcp off, leave wirless on. If the ip address for the modem router is 192.168.1.1 then you must set the ip address of the dlink to 192.168.1.2 so it can work properly. You must setup the dlink router before actually attaching it the modem/router.
