LAN connected but internet won't work

My LAN shows that it is connected but when I try to access the internet via IE or Outlook it won't connect. The LAN shows that it is connected at 10Mbps but the "Sent" is 0 Bytes and the "Received" has 1770 and has changed slowly over the past hour. I'm assuming I have something configured wrong. Does anyone know what am I doing wrong? I've called my ISP but they have been slow to get back with me.
 
Try your internet properties: Control panel, Internet options, Connections tab, Lan Settings button, and see if you have a proxy setting, or if you "Automatically detect settings" is checked or not. Then post back...
 
"Automatically detect settings" was not checked. Checked it and still will not allow internet connection. Proxy is not checked either.
 
if you open a command prompt (start/run/cmd), and type ipconfig /all, you should see your ip address, subnet mask, gateway, DHCP, and DNS addresses. Do you see them all?
 
open a cmd prompt again and type the following:

ping 4.2.2.1

you should get 4 responses back somewhat like the following:

Reply from 4.2.2.1: bytes=32 time=39 TTL=242
Reply from 4.2.2.1: bytes=32 time=39 TTL=242
Reply from 4.2.2.1: bytes=32 time=39 TTL=242
Reply from 4.2.2.1: bytes=32 time=39 TTL=242

Tell me if that is successfull.
 
so you're not really getting a valid IP configuration. How do you connect to the internet? (DSL router, Cable modem, dialup...)
 
If your DSL router is setup so that you don't have to input an IP address manuallly, then follow the steps below and see if these the following are checked. (they should be in most cases). If you have never input an IP address + info manually, AND the following are checked AND is still doesn't work,... either your router is misconfigured or there may be a cable lose...

Control panel, network connections, rightclick Local Area connection, properties, double click TCP/IP protocol. You should be set to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address automatically".
 
Thank you for your help. All the other computers on this router work so it has to be my computer. I'll quit bothering you and wait for my ISP to help. Thanks a lot.
 
if you have a software firewall on that computer, diabled it, your ISP will probably have you do some of the same stuff i had you do, but they will probably have you reset your router and/or connect your computer directly to it/some other junk. All in all, if your setup for automatic ip's, and your computer actually gets ip info (ipconfig /all), but you still can't ping the Internet (4.2.2.1), it would seem to me that your being stopped at the router, unless your ip configuration the router is giving you is not valid somehow, (but we'd need to see the actual ip's (ipconfig /all)to figure that out.
