LAN party security

I'm going to a 200 person LAN party and want to make sure my system is secure from script kiddies and the like. do you have any suggestions? I have AVG and windows firewall running. I know I should turn off file sharing. Of course I could just take all the files i want to save off my computer and just do a fresh install. then after the LAN just reinstall windows. I guess that is probably the best security!
 
Yeah, If your going purely just to play games then I would just take out the HDD with all your stuff on... Put in a new one, Install OS and games with drivers n updates then job done. Then after party swap them over. Not much point installing mega secure firewalls at an event like that due to the hassle it will cause to network your PC etc. Or you could just do what you said but that seems like a lot of hassle.

Or you can create a seperate partition and install an OS on there, then hide the other partition.
 
I wouldn't even bother doing that.

Make sure you have a firewall on your computer, and block every port, except the ones you need for the games. you wont even need port 80 which is for http.

You can also block all of these ports on the router so that only the game ports can be accessed. This is more than enough to stop script kiddy's as all they know how to do is use pre-made software.

You could go as far as making access control lists, so clients can only access the server and not each other, but i wouldn't bother.

When your in a LAN party, most of the people are there to play games and have fun, not destroy other peoples computers. also the joys of a LAN party is that they are not hiding behind there phone line, so if they do anything you can beat the crap out of them lol.
