LAN problem

I think I may have asked about this already, but either we didn't manage to find a solution, so I'll go for another try, because this is really a pain:

I have two computers running win xp connected to the same router, one via cable other via wireless. Sometimes they can see each other and the network works fine, most of hte time tho, for no apparent reason, they can't.

Even when they can't see eachother I can ping the computer that connects via wire from the wireless computer perfectly fine, but not the other way around.

Does anyone know what may be the problem here?

Anyone?

I clicked on renew IP on this program I'm using for managing the wireless device on the wireless computer and now I can see all the time the wired computer from the wireless computer, but not the other way around. Also I can ping in one direction but not the other.

Windows has issues with domain name resolution. Try accessing the other computer through the IP address instead of the computer name.

Try turning off the firewall on the wireless machine or both, reboot both machines and see if it works.

Don't really need it anyway if you are sitting behind a router.

Do you have a router and a modem or just one box?

I just have a router.

I tried shutting off the firewall on both computers but it didn't help.

I've noticed, something, tho, it seems that there's some tiny disturbances with the internet connection on the wireless computer. I hadn't noticed this because I don't use this computer at all. I try to open a site and then often there is a bit of a delay before the site starts loading. Once it starts loading it loads up with normal speed, but there is a small but noticable delay sometimes before it starts loading.
I have torrents donloading on that computer but I pause them always before I try browsing. Closing the torrent client doesn't help the network problem, though.

It is also notable that when I try to ping the wired computer from the wireless there are large disparities in how long it takes the information to make the trip. Sometimes its 2ms and then sometimes its 100+ and sometimes its even substantially longer than that.

The signal to the wireless comptuer seems constant, though, and excellelent. The router is actually literally ON the computer case (I had to connect it wirelessly because the motherboard is apparently screwy on the computer and the network card isn't working, nor is any other network card I try to put in as replacement).

Another thing is that one time I opened my network places on the wired computer, wasn't able to see the wireless, then I clicked on find and searched for the wireless computer and it found it (this is the only time this worked), but it found two computers. Both were actually the same computer, but the difference was that one had the first letter of the name capitalized and the other didn't. I wonder whether maybe I renamed the computer at some point and maybe that is causing some trouble.
