What would I need to have a good LAN/Gaming server.


Like to host small to large LANs.

Xbox and Pc LANs.


To pretty much distribute connections and stuff.



Like what kind of specs and equipment?

Like hosting alot of lan connections at a lan party? Or a gameserver? webserver?

For hosting games, depends what games. And connection speed.

I had a lanparty with 7 other computers at my house(i know, im a nerd. Arnt we all?) I have the most powerfull PC and internet connection in the bunch. It ran fine. My specs were at the time

Hosting Halo PC

3.0ghz Pentium 4 HT
1.5GB 400mhz ram
Radeon 9800XT 256mb DDR2
160gb hdd

20Mbit dowload, about 2mbit up.


Ran it excellent.

LAN server.

This would be a step up from using a switch.

I want to host a bunch of LAN connections.
Most of the time it will be without internet.

Heres what I think I need.
Dedicated Computer
Windows Server *To host the games, instead of linux*
Switches. Or one really big one lol.
