I went on the microsoft website and they told me how to open the language toolbar (with speech recognition and stuff) and when i was on the bit it said (control panel-> Date, Time, Language and Regional options-> Regional and language options-> languages tab-> Details) and on that page, the language bar is greyed out. i really want to activate this bar and i dont know how. any suggestions? thanks. It is perhaps because you have disabled advanced text services (or they have been disabled). When you seen the language bar button greyed out, go to the next tab across (the Advanced tab) and make sure the button for disabling the Advanced Text Services is not checked.

If that doesn't solve it, there is another way to activate it. In MS Word 2003, if you click Tools/Speech, you can activate the toolbar (it asks you to go through an audio training wizard first though I think). I'm not sure about other Office versions, but it should be similar.
