Lap Top Dropped from the Network

Today was one of my days off. I had plans for things to do. But all my plans went out the window when my spouse got creative with her laptop and managed to get it perminantly disconnected from our home network. Instead of facing the accusations that I was not sensitive to her need to have her favorite toy up and running, I spent the day trying to get the thing back online. But I have failed. And so, here I am, on this forum looking for some help from the good people here.

I do not know if it all started with something she downloaded, and/or run or it was something our son did, but it seems that we had that cute virus that pretends to be a legit (even Microsoft) anti-virus program. Instead of running Kapersky (which we own) she decided to go into the control panel and uninstall what she thought was the problem.

Apparently she removed something that allows her to connect with the network. She says it is "the internet ethernet". She says it is "athero...". But she really does not remember what.

We are waiting for the system disc to be sent to us, but in the mean time, I have looked to see if there is something I can do.

Here is what is wierd. Her computer can SEE the network. When I click to make a network connection, her wireless system can see the network name I have installed on the router. It is only when I click on the connection and provide the password that something strange happens. It produces an error that I do not know how to interpret. It says "Windows had encountered an error saving the wireless profile. Specific error: The parameter is incorrect".

Any suggestions?
