hello all. i am new here and im hoping to find some help. i have a HP pavilion dv6000 (3ish years old).about a year ago i was having problems with it starting up with a black screen for about 10 secs then it shut itself off and would automatically repeat...over and over. i was told to send it to HP because i had a cracked motherboard and they would fix it for free. i sent it in and they fixed it, no probs. A couple days ago i was playing WoW and the screen went black and computer just shut off. instead of trying to restart it stayed off. i have a dead battery so i run it with the power supply. I would try to start it and most of the time my power and volume lights come on, fan kicks in but still a black screen. after 4-5 secs it shuts off. NO restart but when i try to restart it it does nothing. now there are times when i can go to start it and it works fine. i researched online and with the help of an online guide i cracked it open and cleaned out the fan. put it back together and still the same prob. i am stuck and dont know what to do. i only use a external fan and a mouse in USB ports. also i am somewhat computer knowledgeable. i hope i have provided enough info and im sorry about long post. thanks in advance.

no aftermarket componets and i am running vista.

fiddling around with it more , it now will only attempt to turn on if i unplug it and plug it back in... does not restart at all with battery in on charger

It is AMD CPU? if it is. this is common problem. a big chip intermittent because of hot, need to replace the motherboard again.

yes it is. what is a good motherboard to get? im about ready to fix it cheaply and sell it and buy a desktop. i have hd so many probs with this hp.

and thank u for reply!

Have you run your anti-virus,spyware,etc yet, if so and nothing was found then
mmmmmmmm this could be a number of problems, a bad psu, overheating of the cpu as laptop said or a faulty windows file or hard drive problems, id suggest you reset it back to factory settings and see if you have the same problems

Just because it is AMD doesn't mean it is broken

You can't just buy a motherboard for the laptop. You have to get the specific one for your laptop.

I am talking about the DV6000 motherboard with AMD cpu and NF-G6150-n-A2 , not just AMD or other type of motherboard with AMD cpu. if you do some research, you will find how the board performances. the common problem is the North bridge or graphic chip loosed or broken. So, the upgraded version with lower consumption of NF-G6150-n-A2 came out in 2009. Sure. even if for the DV6000 MB with AMD, they still have different part number and version. the part number can be found underneath memories on the back.
