That wouldnt work well, if at all for 3Dmax and CAD rendering.

I'd suggest something with a Pentium M and a dedicated video card.
 
I agree. That unit is a little out dated. As for a dedicated graphics card, you may not need, but you will definitely need a lot of RAM. If you're doing a lot of actual 3D rendering, it may help, but most vector line rendering work a lot better with basic video. RAM is the key.

True, lots of RAM and a nice CPU is a must. But dedicated video memory will improve performance, not to mention make it look nicer.
 
thats a lot of rendering that on poor thing. i dont think it will handle it well. photoshop CS even takes my 1.8 ghz pentium 4 sometime to load certain things.
