Dear Experts

My Windows 7 laptop connected to internet via my mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 by tethering portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

I am a technician field and I need to connect my laptop via USB port to an Ericsson MiniLink (telecom NE) node to do configuration.

Whenever I connect the USB cable from the laptop to Ericsson my internet gets dropped, while this didn’t happen to my coworker who is using the same laptop brand as mine.

By the way the Ericsson software that I installed on my laptop create the attached socket called : "Ericsson USBLAN adapter" on my computer's network and that would be used for the USB communication

Any advice what should I do to avoid this problem

Thanks

Hmmm. Sounds like the adapter takes over meaning you have no Internet. Is there a setting in the Ericsson software or did that just install a USB driver?

Generally ethernet connections are preferred over wireless, and that's what's happening here. You need to make your wireless connection the preferred adapter.
Thanks for that . This is good point I wasn't aware of it although if I connect my laptop to other NE (for instance Huawei) internet doesn't get dropped.

Right, because this connection created it's own USB/LAN interface, which isn't the same as the built-in wired ethernet adapter. The USB/LAN interface may have a higher priority.

Yes that is the reason I guess
Appreciate your help

I'm just curious how the other guy got it to work apparently.

This is what I mean by "takes over." It's preferred. Once upon a time I thought I could fall back to LAN when using a WIFI adapter, but that wasn't the case. The computer will only use one.

If you can't find a priority setting you can just manually modify the routing table on the PC using the route command and adjust the metric for whichever adapter you want.
