Laptop acting up

Its randomly freezing and it wont go to blue screen nor will it unfreeze. It freezes up when i try to open anything. What can be the problem?

I was thinking a failed hdd but wasnt sure because my mom was carrying it around with her and might have dropped it because it was working fine the day before.

Win 7 Home Premium
4gb ram
75gb hdd
and ill need to get the cpu when i start it back up.

So i do think it is the hdd because when i was trying to save this pic it said that hdd cannot detect pictures and make sure hdd is properly inserted. Well heres my official specs

Download and install the appropriate HDD diagnosis software for your HDD manufacturer from the list here: http://www.computerforum.com/211596-list-hard-drive-diagnostic-utilities-test-your-drive.html

Run the appropriate one and then tell us what the outcome is.

Then download Memtest86, burn it to a CD using something like Nero or CDBurnerXP or ImgBurn or similar. Boot off the CD and let the test run for about 6 hours. This tests your RAM. Download Memtest86 from here: http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm (get the free edition).

Repeat the test which each individual stick and switch them around in your RAM bays (I am assuming you have 2x2GB sticks, but you may only have 1x4GB).

Let us know what happens.
