Laptop Advice

Looking for some advice. I'm looking into getting a new laptop and would like any suggestions you can give on what brand/equipment I should get.

This is purely for recreational/fun use. I won't be running any major graphics for work or games on this. It is basically to surf the net, email, play poker online, use basic Excel and word processing, download my pics from my camera, store music, and maybe in the near future to burn DVDs from my video camera.

I'd like to spend less than $1,500, and obviously the less the better. Thats the main reason I'm on here. I don't want to get all this extra RAM and stuff if it doesn't make sense.

Also, would a MAC be better than a Windows based OS for what I want to do. The less bugs/viruses the OS is susceptible to, the better.

Thanks in advance for your help.

first thing, where do u live? it looks like an entry level notebook would do just fine. possibly look at dell. i know the guys here will give me a hard time for saying that, but they have great entry level conmputers for quite good prices. of course you will be able to find better deals, it is just a matter of finding legit ones and the like

You may want to consider buying a used one, you can get some pretty good deals on ebay, thats where I got mine from. I think a pentium III would suit your purposes too. Just make sure you buy from professional ebay sellers, some of them even have some type of warranty.

You can probably find one for under 1,000 bucks. Check dell, also look at ebay for deals, ive got a laptop im selling in my sig, but there are plenty of others.

check dell... they got laptops going for like 400 bucks right now... i thinks it's an inspiron b120... it should definitely suit your needs...

Well just about any laptop with a DVD burner can do what you're asking for. But what are some of you other requirements or preferences? Such as, widescreen, normal ratio, glossy, light, small, tablet convertable, firewire, 4 speakers, etc. That can determine what exactly you're looking for. :D
