laptop and external cd burner

Probably a stupid question, however I'm not very tech savvy.

I have an Acer laptop with 124mb RAM. Would an external CD burner (USB) work on my computer or would it be too slow. Also I still only have Windows 98 so I would need a driver I guess as well.

Any advice would be appreciated!!!
 
does your laptop have USB ports? if soo, the external burner would work, but i think they have compatibilities, just make sure the burner works on 98 as well.
 
Most USB burners require USB2.0 for full speed. You should still be able to use it, but it probably would be fairly slow. And yes, you'll need to find some drivers. Usally they are included or a link is included where you can download them.
 
Also, some may require Win2000 & up or WinXP only. Not a lot of Win98 support out there. And yes, many need a high processor in order to burn without problems.
