Laptop Bag/case

I am a student at teesside university currently studying product design, i am looking into the mobile generation of technology and how existing laptop bags/cases do not provide sufficient storage for a lot of the accessories for your laptop. I am looking into how people use there laptops whilst on the move for example on the train or in coffee shops, and how a portable workstation for all your accessories and laptop could be beneficial to the user. It would be a great help if people would fill out the questionnaire attatched and also include any information they may feel i have missed. This will give me a better understanding of what the market demands. Thank you for your time.

I am looking into a portable workstation so it is easier to use your laptop on the go instead of getting everything out of the bag setting up in a small awkward place and then having to pack it back up into the bag, but this workstation can also be used at home as not a lot of people have a private study area in their home.

the main aim is to make this whole process of working on the go easier and more organised, making the whole process easier to do.

Any feedback or ideas on this would be much appreciated.

At the moment I am still in the early design stages looking at what to include in this case/bag, if it should be a laptop, or now that the tablets such as the ipad are on the increase make the case for that. At the moment I am also researching to see if the technology is there to have a laptop where the screen detaches to take for travel purposes.

An example of an existing portable workstation is the quiksilver premium workstation, but this covers a really large area once folded out and would only be able to be used on a tabletop. There is not the space on train tables or in coffee shops.

Any further feedback would be appreciated :)

Here are some features i'd like
  • external pocket for laptop
  • pocket for tablet
  • organization space for chargers, usb's etc
  • waterproof zippers
